BICYCLE RODEOS

BICYCLE RODEO 2009

November 14, 2009

A picture perfect day.   Not a cloud in the sky . . . , 70 degrees after a long hot Summer . . ., Chamber of Commerce Market busy in the next park . . . , a perfect Lake Placid, Florida day.   Volunteers came from _________________ to help with the Lake Placid Police Department 2009 Bicycle Rodeo.   Even better, the department received a new bicycle rodeo trailer from the Florida Department of Transportation which included 40 new bicycles to loan to participants who had no bikes.

At last count, ninety-four children attended the event and participated in the courses ands safety shows.   That is ninety-four children who will navigate our streets safer.

The Lake Placid Police Department funds the rodeo totally through donations.    Additions this year included a small PA system purchased with donations funds.   The PA enabled great communications with all of the participants and will serve as a communications aid should a community emergency, such as a dangerous hurricane, occur.

Without our sponsors and people who donated their time this event would not have occurred.   We wish to recognize and thank the following.  Epilepsy Foundation of Florida for their bicycle helmet donations.   Lynn Connelly whose donation made possible the PA system purchase.

RODEO 2008
The 2008 bike rodeo held November 15, 2008 was a special event.   Improvements were made and the event just keeps getting better.  The 2008 bike rodeo had about 50 participants.   The Lake Placid Police Department qualified for a new bike trailer from the Florida Department of Transportation.  It was supposed to arrive the week of the rodeo but didn't make it.    We also had a new concept of a safety video in the classroom that most kids enjoyed.
